About the Deep South Center for OH&S

DSC:OestenstadWelcome to The Deep South Center for Occupational Health and Safety. The Center is a consortium of programs at the University of Alabama at Birmingham,  Auburn University and  University of Alabama that offers graduate education in occupational health nursing, industrial hygiene, occupational safety and ergonomics and agricultural safety and health . As indicated by our mission and vision, the Deep South Center is dedicated to the protection and promotion of the health and safety of workers in our region. Our research efforts are focused on the National Occupational Research Agenda (NORA) priorities, especially as they pertain to the forestry and wood related industries because they are such an important component of the economy of this region, and so many workers are exposed to the inherent hazards in these industries.

The Center provides strong
Academic Programs of study for its students, which includes interdisciplinary experiences and field work experiences. Our graduates have gone on to rewarding and challenging careers in occupational health and safety (Testimonials) Financial Assistance for masters and doctoral students is available for U.S. citizens.

The Deep South Center's
Continuing Education  program also offers continuing education workshops to meet the training needs of professionals working in occupational health and safety. The Center's Outreach Program strives to share information on occupational health and safety issues to other educational institutions, public agencies, businesses, workers, minorities, youths and anyone with an interest in safety and health.

We look forward to answering your inquiries concerning all aspects of our Center, and hope that you chose to study in one of our academic programs, collaborate in one of our research programs, or attend one of our many continuing education programs.
