Our Mission

The Section on Research Methods and Clinical Trials (RMCT) within the Department of Biostatistics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham started in January of 2004. In addition to supporting the missions of the Department and the University, our mission is to advance knowledge in the field of Biostatistics in general and specifically the field of clinical trials and large scale studies. We aim to achieve these goals by providing:

  • an outstanding teaching program in biostatistics for graduate students and others;
  • contributions to methodological research in the fields of statistics and epidemiology;
  • statistical support in the design and analyses of research studies from grant development through publication;
  • data management, quality control and monitoring capabilities to investigators.

The RMCT group consists of a team of investigators at the faculty, staff and graduate student levels who have expertise in several major areas, including:

  1. design and analysis of large and complex databases;
  2. design and analysis of animal and human experiments;
  3. monitoring of trials;
  4. research methods and their implication in practice;
  5. mathematical and computational statistics.
