At the UAB School of Public Health, we value an interactive relationship with our alumni. Without your support and involvement, we could not possibly accomplish our vision of leading innovation in public health. There are many ways that you can be involved in service to the School, no matter how near or far away you may be.
Please email Joan Ohrn at ohrn@uab.edu if you are interested in any of the activities described below.

Student Recruiting
Alumni are the most influential recruiters of new students. We invite interested alumni to participate in our Student Recruiters program. We will provide you with materials that will assist you in presenting to clubs, groups, and professionals interested in public health careers.
Speaker/Lecturer
Last year we had over 30 alumni share their knowledge and expertise with students and faculty by volunteering to be a guest lecturer or a seminar presenter.
Student Mentoring
We receive many requests from prospective and current students to speak to, or email, alums of the School to ask basic discipline and career-related questions. Let us know if you are interested in one-time phone or email contact with prospective and/or current students.
Career Services
Do you remember what it was like as a new graduate looking for your first job in the public health arena? Would you like to help a fellow alum that is changing jobs in mid-career?
Please email job announcements/descriptions to the alumni office and we will distribute it electronically to our 400+ students and interested alumni. Click here for more information.
Email job announcements to: ohrn@uab.edu.
Internship Referrals
One of the most common pieces of advice that alumni give students is to work an internship. Internships allow students to learn about the practical details of doing work, as well as how organizations operate. These skills cannot be taught in the classroom. An internship is a great opportunity for students to put into practice what they have learned as well as contribute to the needs of your organization. Internships are now a requirement for all MPH students. We need your help in placing our students in a rewarding position. Click here for more information.
UAB National Alumni Society
Membership in the UAB National Alumni Society (NAS) School of Public Health Chapter will afford you with opportunities to be aware of and involved with activities at the university level. For more information on joining the UAB National Alumni society, click here.
