This award annually recognizes a member of the faculty whose research has made significant direct or indirect contributions to the health of the nation through empirical research, research methodology, or theory building or adaptation.
This award recognizes a graduate of five years or greater who has promoted the School of Public Health's mission of promoting health and preventing disease. The recipient of this award will be an alumnus who would serve as a source of inspiration to students, alumni, and other public health professionals and who would be a source of pride for the School of Public Health and UAB.
The recipient of the annual award will be an internationally recognized statistician. The recipient will receive an honorarium, give a distinguished lecture at UAB, and meet with students and young faculty at UAB. This lecture will be widely publicized and attendance strongly encouraged from all undergraduate and graduate students in the quantitative sciences, especially women.
Back of the Envelope Awards
The Back of the Envelope Awards are envisioned as a mechanism to stimulate and support intellectual creativity at the School of Public Health that can lead to the next generation of intellectual excellence and productivity.
This award pays tribute to Dr. Katholi's longtime service to and support of UAB and the Department of Biostatistics. The award was established to encourage excellence in research and scholarly activities among students in the Department of Biostatistics.
This award celebrates the leadership and service shown by Dr. Naomi S. Fineberg to the UAB Department of Biostatistics. The award was established to highlight the research accomplishments and potential of students and postdoctoral trainees in the Department of Biostatistics.
The Sam Brown Bridge Builder Award was established in 2009 to recognize the remarkable career of Dr. Sam Brown. The award honors his unique ability to develop and nurture working relationships between faculty and staff across the UAB campus in ways that embodied the vision, character, and bridge-building talents vital to the future of UAB.
