Dr. Tamekia Jones has been selected as the 2008 recipient of the Charles R. Katholi Distinguished Dissertation Award from the Department of Biostatistics in the School of Public Health. Dr. Jones is a spring 2008 graduate of the Department and did her doctoral research under the direction of Dr. David T. Redden. Dr. Jones is currently a Research Assistant Professor in the Research Children’s Oncology Group (COG) in the Department of Epidemiology and Health Policy Research at the University of Florida. Dr. Jones was very active during her time at UAB. Among her many service activities, she served as a senator and as the secretary for the UAB Graduate Student Association. She was also actively engaged in professional activities as well, giving a total of 6 presentations at professional meetings. Tamekia entered the doctoral program in the Department of Biostatistics in Spring of 2002 as the first student after a substantial restructuring of the curriculum. Her personality made her well suited to this role and she helped lay the groundwork that has led to successful growth in the overall doctoral program, which now has over 25 doctoral students.
