Congratulations to Drs. Claudiu Lungu, Yasushi Ito, Alan Shih and Kent Oestenstad, and Industrial Hygiene doctoral student Paula Joe. Their manuscript entitled "Comparison of a Novel Surface Laser Scanning Anthropometric Technique to Traditional Methods for Facial Parameter Measurements" has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Occupational & Environmental Hygiene.

 

Two Newly Developed HB Courses for Fall Semester 2011

The Department of Health Behavior has two newly developed courses for Fall semester 2011. Dori Pekmezi, PhD, Assistant Professor, will teach a Physical Activity and Health Seminar and Terri Lewis, PhD, Assistant Professor, will teach Family Violence & Child Victimization. Both courses are expected to attract a broad audience within and outside the SOPH.

The Department expresses our condolences to the family of Dr. Brinkley, one of our recent doctoral graduates.

Bradley_BrinkleyBradley Scott Brinkley from Leeds, Alabama, was born on September 28, 1962 in Brunswick, Maine. He was a member and Deacon at Upper Room Baptist Church in Irondale, Alabama. He was employed as the Radiation Safety Officer for the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Himel Mallick Awarded a $400 Travel Award & $800 Tuition Scholarship

Himel MallickHimel Mallick, PhD student at the Section on Statistical Genetics (SSG) in the Department of Biostatistics at UAB, has been awarded a $400 travel award and $800 tuition scholarship to attend two modules (MCMC for Genetics and Introduction to QTL Mapping) at the16th Summer Institute in Statistical Genetics (SISG) to be held in the South Campus Center of the University of Washington (UW) in Seattle, WA on June 13- July 1, 2011.

Dr. George Howard Named Recipient of Distinguished Faculty Investigator Award

This is our School’s highest staff award and Sue is certainly most deserving to receive this award for all the many contributions she has made and continues to make to the School and UAB.

Help ASPH Promote Public Health as a Rewarding and Interesting Career Option

HelpASPHPromotePHCareerThe Association of Schools of Public Health (ASPH) and an advisory group from schools of public health are developing a web-based tool to help current and prospective students see the diverse world of public health careers open to graduates of CEPH-accredited schools of public health. This application will allow individuals to search an interactive database of public health positions through using a number of search criteria.
