BODYLOVE is made possible by

BODYLOVE is a radio soap opera with a secret mission. While our talented cast entertains the audience with an intriguing story, we also teach about common health problems, especially those threatening African Americans. And at the same time, we help connect listeners with the real-world health services they need -- services they might never learn about otherwise.

Our program currently airs on sixteen radio stations across Alabama, with plans to expand and diversify.

On a health-behavior level, the show is mostly about diabetes and hypertension, stress management and mental health. On a dramatic level, the show is more complicated. It centers on Vanessa Love, a woman in early middle age raising three children with little help from her husband, a recovering alcoholic. Her beauty salon, Bodylove, is the family's main source of income...and Vanessa's main source of stress. She knows she needs to manage her hypertension -- but with her constant worries about her husband, the kinds of trouble her children can get into, and the pressure of running her own business, it's never easy for Vanessa to keep her blood pressure under control.

Here are some typical audience responses we've received recently:

"It’s just really a good program. And if everybody would listen to it, it would help enlighten them.”

“I listen to the program to learn more about hypertension. I like them talking about it. I am learning what I need to do.”

“Listening to the characters go through what they go through, it’s really been an inspiration.”

"This show really helped me. Thank God for you people."
