Dr. Szychowski is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biostatistics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he is a member of the Section on Research Methods and Clinical Trials. He also holds a secondary appointment in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Szychowski trained as a postdoctoral scholar in the UAB Department of Biostatistics after completing doctoral studies at the University of Alabama (Applied Statistics, 2006).
Research interests include the design, management, and analysis of clinical trials with primary emphasis on maternal and fetal medicine. He is currently the head of the data coordinating center for the multi-site Cesarean Section Optimal Antibiotic Prophylaxis (C/SOAP) study. In addition, he leads statistical analyses for the multi-site, multi-national Secondary Prevention of Small Subcortical Stroke (SPS3) clinical trial. Additional research interests include survival analysis with multiple outcomes and competing risks and issues surrounding interim analyses. Dr. Szychowski has taught courses in categorical data analysis, multivariate analysis, and biostatistical methods.
