Principles of Occupational Health Management Online

OVERVIEW

We are very excited about offering this course in a web-based format. The modules will facilitate a broad understanding of the strategies used by successful managers within an occupational health setting.

Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to explain the application of management principles and demonstrate knowledge needed to effectively plan, direct, implement, and evaluate programs and activities, through a short test at the end of each module. 


TOPICS

  • Introduction to Principles of Occupational Health Management: This module is an overview of four goals of an effective manager: planning, organizing, leading and coordinating resources. Participant will gain an understanding of management and the essential development of key communication skills to become an effective manager. 

  • The Strategic Planning Process: Achieving Healthcare Focus: The strategic planning process helps in determining where an organization is going over the next year or more, how it is going to get there and how it will know if goals are achieved. Through recognizing the concepts of mission statements, vision statements, setting objectives and benchmarking participants gain a better understanding of the creation and application of a strategic plan.   The role of determining the possible strengths, weakness, opportunities, and threats facing an organization in the strategic planning process will be covered.

  • Introduction to Budgeting: Budgets are necessary planning and evaluation tools. The primary purpose of budgeting is to develop a definite and detailed plan for the coming financial period. This module is provides an understanding of budgeting basics.

  • Marketing Occupational Health and Safety Services:Marketing can guarantee the success or failure of your training program, this module guides participants to an understanding of consumer behavior, market segmentation, and identification of new market opportunities.

  • Effective Training Programs: This module provides an overview of the concepts, skills, and techniques needed to develop an effective training program.  At the ended of the module, participants will have an understanding of the principles of adult learning, identifying and analyzing training needs, developing training objectives, preparing lesson plans, and understanding the importance of evaluating the training. 


WORKSHOP LENGTH
 
Participants will have four weeks from receiving log-in instructions from the Deep South Center for Occupational Health & Safety to complete the modules.
 

PROGRAM FACULTY
 
Moniaree P. Jones, RN, COHN-S, CCM, Legal Nurse Consultant is the Course Director.  She is currently a Legal Nurse Consultant at the Alabama Board of Nursing. She is a recognized leader in occupational health for our region and has served in many capacities within the Central Alabama Association of Occupational Health Nursing and is presently on the board for the Greater Birmingham Chapter of the Case Management Society of America. She currently serves on the Education Committee for the local chapter of the Greater Birmingham Association of Legal Nurse Consultants. Ms. Jones has licensure with the Alabama Board of Nursing and the Florida Board of Nursing as well as certifications in occupational health nursing and case management. In addition to her full-time employment with a prestigious law firm, Ms. Jones is a student in the Doctorate of Education program (EdD) (Instructional Leadership) at The University of Alabama. This is a joint program of the UA Capstone College of Nursing and the School of Education
 

PROFESSIONAL POINTS

The Deep South Center for Occupational Health & Safety is an approved provider of continuing education units for nurses by the AL Board of Nursing (Provider #ABNP0420) and has awarded this activity 5.0 contact hours for those successfully completing all modules. For all others the Deep South Center for Occupational Health & Safety has awarded this program 0.5 CEUs. To receive a certificate of completion, participants must complete a minimum of 3 modules, with a passing score of 80% per module.  Participants must also complete an evaluation form for each module.

  • Memory 512 MB or higher (1GB recommended)
  • Software PHP 4.3.x or PHP 5.x

REGISTRATION
 

Tuition is $50. This includes login-ID and password. Registration fees must be received in advance. Once payment has been received, a login and password will be provided, you would be able to access online WebCt for the maximum length of four weeks.
