H. Kenneth Dillon—Brian J. Carnahan Deep South Center for Occupational Health & Safety Research Symposium

You are invited to present your research at the 2014 Symposium, the premier regional research conference in the field of occupational and environmental health and safety. The one-day annual event provides excellent opportunities to reach an interdisciplinary audience and interact with researchers from academia (engineering, nursing, public health and medicine) and practitioners working in occupational and environmental health and safety.

The 2014 Symposium will be held Friday, April 11, 2014 at UAB School of Public Health Edge of Chaos. The notion of The Edge of Chaos comes from author Steven Johnson who postulates that collaborative solutions to wicked problems occur in an environment that runs a fine line between order and chaos. To put it another way: innovation happens at the edge of chaos.

Presentations will be given by the recipients of the Deep South Center for OH&S 2012 Pilot Project Research Grants and selected researchers and graduate students in the field.  You are invited to submit an abstract for a 20 minute oral presentation or a poster on your research.  The deadline for abstract submissions is Friday, February 14, 2014.   The abstract should provide the title of the presentation, name and affiliation of the authors (first author is assumed to be the presenter), concise description of the research, a summary of the major findings and conclusions (max. 300 words).  Please also indicate your preference for an oral presentation or a poster.

Abstract Submission: Your abstract must be prepared using one of the available templates Word (.doc, .docx), Rich text format (.rtf), Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) file.  The maximum file size is 1 MB.  After the abstract has been uploaded, modifications can be made until the submission deadline.  To revise your abstract, you must upload a new abstract file.  When an abstract has been submitted, a confirmation email will be sent to the corresponding (submitting) author.  Abstracts should be submitted using the following link:

Abstracts will be reviewed by an interdisciplinary panel and notification of acceptance will be sent by Friday, February 21, 2014 Travel support will be provided to selected individuals presenting at the symposium.
