Southeastern Regional Research Conference ~ Round-Up

Pilot Project Recipient, Mark Schall, PhD, CPE, Associate Professor, Auburn University

On April 3rd and 4th, 2018, UAB’s Deep South Center for OHS (DSC) co-sponsored the first annual Southeastern Regional Research Conference in Savannah, GA.  The University of Kentucky’s Central Appalachian Regional ERC and Southeast Center for Agricultural Health and Injury Prevention, Sunshine ERC at the University of South Florida and the North Carolina Occupational Safety and Health ERC at the University of North Carolina partnered with the DSC in planning this event.  Over 64 people from universities and research institutions across the southeast attended—Ed Foulke, former Deputy Secretary of Labor for OSHA was the keynote speaker.  He opened the session and was followed by presentations from researchers on topics ranging from opioids to ergonomics.  In addition, there were 15 poster presentations by students from UAB, Auburn University, University of Kentucky, Virginia Tech, University of South Florida and the University of Georgia.  With the success of this year’s collaboration, plans for next year’s event have already begun.
