RESEARCH INTERESTS:
My research encompasses the fields of free radical chemistry, oxidative biology, biochemistry, nutrition, and toxicology with emphasis on the design and evaluation of models used to understand the biological effects of dynamic and multi-component cellular systems. I focus on the reactions of combustion-associated free radicals, smog, smoke, cigarette smoke, nitrogen oxides, peroxynitrite, peroxynitrate, ozone, airborne particulate matter, hydrogen sulfide, chlorine, hypochlorite, and heavy metals with biological target molecules, and study the protection of these critical biological targets by antioxidants and free radical scavengers.
