Office of Energetics

French chemist Antoine-Laurent Lavoisier and his wife and collaborator Marie-Anne Pierrette Paulze

Energetics may be defined as the study of the causes, mechanisms, and consequences of the acquisition, storage, and utilization of metabolizable energy by biological organisms.

UAB SOPH's Office of Energetics is responsible for developing unique programs and initiatives that address topics in energetics including obesity, physical activity, and related areas from multiple perspectives in ways that provide new insights into this complex domain that affects so many aspects of health. Inaugurated in July 2011, the Office is currently developing a comprehensive research program with services to facilitate, encourage, and support the School's scientific enterprise.
