Dr. Zhang received her masters degree in public health from the University of Kentucky and a doctoral degree in epidemiology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). She completed her post-doctoral training in pharmacoepidemiology and health service utilization at UAB. Her research interest is in pharmacoepidemiology, which examines the use, efficacy, and safety of medications and her previous research work has focused on musculoskeletal disease including rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis, and lupus. Another research interest of hers is epidemiologic methodologies to use administrative database for pharmacoepidemiologic research, including data from public health plans such as Medicare and from commercial health plans. She aims to further explore and expand research using claims data by incorporating lab data, extraction of electronic medical records, linkage of administrative data to other data sources.
