Andy is a Professor in the Department of Health Care Organization and Policy at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, School of Public Health. Andy has almost 30 years of academic and business experience. He has held business-school faculty positions at Auburn University, the University of Arkansas, the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and Samford University. At Samford University for 10 years, Andy managed the university's computer service department for four years and was Associate Dean of the School of Business for six years.

Andy was the founding director of the Community Banking School at Samford University. Leaving academia for seven years, Andy served in operations executive positions in a variety of businesses serving domestic and international markets and was credited with turning losing operations into profitable ones through process analysis and re-engineering. In 2004, Andy joined the School of Public Health at UAB where he teaches finance, management, strategic planning, and process analysis; conducts research in public health preparedness for all hazards; designs, facilitates, and evaluates drills and exercises; and provides advice to agencies and companies in a variety of areas including continuity of operations planning, process optimization, and strategic planning. He is the author of two books, nine computer programming aids, and more than fifty articles and cases. Andy holds BS and MBA degrees from Auburn University, and a PhD degree from the University of North Texas.
