Marilee Comfort operates an independent consulting business, Comfort Consults, which focuses on staff training and program evaluation for maternal-child and family service programs in health, education and social services. With support from the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, she is currently developing a practical parenting assessment tool, with an accompanying distance learning program, to train service providers to use structured observations of parents and children in their daily work settings. Dr. Comfort completed her PhD and MPH at the University of North Carolina and a postdoctoral fellowship in Maternal and Child Health at the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health.

Dr. Comfort has conducted evaluations with diverse programs, such as Early Head Start, the Please Touch Museum’s community outreach programs for low income children, youth and families, home-based infant/toddler/parent programs for families of children with special needs, health/education school readiness initiatives, and educational partnerships to develop problem-based learning focused on health issues among low income minority youth. She brings more than 20 years of university-based research experience to her consulting business from federally funded projects on intervention services, health and life outcomes of substance abusing pregnant and parenting women, as well as families of children with special needs. Dr. Comfort’s publications address adolescent parenting, parent-child interaction assessment, the characteristics and treatment outcomes of substance abusing women, and health-related problem-based learning with adolescents.
