Robert
S. McCurdy began his career as a pediatrician in private practice
in 1953. In 1965, he was hired by the Colorado Department
of Health, where he initially served 2 years as Pediatric
Consultant. Between 1967 and 1993 he held a series of administrative
positions in the Department of Health including Chief of the
Maternal and Child Health Section, Director of Family and
community Health Services Division, Director of Maternal and
Child Health Division, and Director of Medical Affairs and
Special Programs. In 1993, he retired from the Department
of Health. He continues to serve as Pediatrician for the Clinica
Campesina in Lafayette, CO.
Throughout
his career he has maintained an affiliation with the University
of Colorado, Health Sciences Center. His appointments at the
University have included Clinical Assistant in Pediatrics,
Clinical Instructor in Pediatrics, Assistant, Associate and
Clinical Professor in Pediatrics, as well as Associate Clinical
Professor in Preventive Medicine. He is currently Clinical
Professor Emeritus in Pediatrics.
Dr.
McCurdy has taken a very active role in numerous professional
societies. He has served as President of the Colorado Chapter
of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and as an Executive
Committee Member of the Community Pediatrics Section of the
American Academy of Pediatrics. In addition he has participated
in the Association of MCH Programs as the President Elect,
President, and Chairperson of the Committee on Health of Adolescents
and School Aged Children.
