The Ireland Research Travel Scholarship is available to both Doctoral and Master’s degree students. It will award up to $1000 to graduate students who must travel to an out-of-state location to get access to library materials or to learn new research techniques required to complete their research projects.
The applicant must present evidence that the research materials or methodologies that will be accessed at the out-of-state location are not available at UAB. Travel to scientific meetings cannot be supported from these funds, but travel to participate in a short duration training course can be considered.
Students are nominated by their graduate program director and their mentor for this travel award. Selection of the recipients of this travel scholarship is awarded on a competitive basis, after evaluation of each nominee’s research travel needs by a faculty selection committee. Funds for research travel must be used between June 1, 2012 and May 31, 2013.
The deadline for receipt of applications and any supporting materials is 5 pm on Friday March 2, 2012. Please deliver the applications to Thomas Harris in the Graduate School Dean’s office (HUC 504). We intend to announce the list of awards by April 1, 2012, so that awardees can make plans for use of the scholarship funds for the coming academic year. Travel funds must be used between June 1, 2012 and May 31, 2013.
