   General Requirements  - Master's Degree Programs (MPH,MS, MSPH)

The established overall minimum requirements for admission are:

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
  • A minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0.  (Previous graduate work may be evaluated to determine the applicants aptitude for graduate work)
  • Graduate Admissions Test (accepted tests. by department listed below)
    Biostatistics                         GRE
    Environmental Health          GRE
  • Epidemiology                      GRE, MCAT
    Health Behavior                  GRE
    Health Care Organization    GRE, MCAT, GMAT*, LSAT*, OAT*
    Maternal & Child Health     GRE, MCAT

    *GMAT, LSAT, OAT not accepted for all tracks in the Department of Health Care Organization and Policy.

    Both the score and the percentile on each of the verbal, quantitative, and analytical writing sections of the GRE will be evaluated.  The minimum acceptable score is 1000 on the combined verbal and quantitative sections with the analytical writing variable by department preference.
    The test requirement may be considered for waiver for applicants to  MPH or MSPH programs for applicants with advanced degrees (e.g., PhD, MD) from an accredited institution when a written request is submitted by the applicant with the complete application and the department recommends the request.  Waiver allowances vary.
    Foreign-trained medical graduates are not waived from this requirement and must submit a GRE.
     MS degree applicants must submit a GRE.
    Submitting an alternate tests score in lieu of the GRE may affect your ranking for consideration of merit award or named scholarship for which you may have applied.
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
    International applicants whose native language is not English and did not complete a degree at an English-speaking institution must submit a TOEFL with TWE score.  The minimum acceptable score is: (Paper-Based) 550 , (Computer-Based) 213and (Internet-Based) 79-80.
  • Other aspects of an applicant's record, such as educational achievement, professional experience and clarity of career goals are helpful in determining admissability.  Generally admissions decisions are based on an overall assessment of the adequacy of an applicants preparation and desire for the successful completion of graduate study in the degree track selected in the School of Public Health.  Each department may consider exceptions to the minimum requirements or may set additional requirements for admission.
