MPH International Health and Global Studies (IHGS)

The Department of Epidemiology is one of four academic departments that offer an MPH degree option in International Health and Global Studies (IHGS).  This multidisciplinary program is designed to provide students with fundamental understanding of issues, knowledge and skills critical for international work in public health.

The Department of Epidemiology will be the academic home for students wishing to obtain preparation and training to evaluate factors that determine health and quality of life in developing countries; integrate this knowledge into appropriate control and intervention efforts; collect, analyze and interpret information used for improving the scope and delivery of public health programs in developing countries.

MPH (IHGS)

Distinct to their degree program and educational goals, students in the EPI-IHGS will also take the IHGS Core as well as satisfying the MPH Internship requirement via a placement appropriate for obtaining international experience.  The minimum total credit hours for the degree are 48-58. The number of credit hours needed to earn the MPH degree in International Health and Global Studies depends upon the background and experience of the student upon entering the program. Students having advanced (usually doctoral) training in a health-related area, or considerable (usually 5 or more years) public health experience will be required to complete a lesser number of hours than will the new student who does not have such degrees or experience.
