MPH - Advanced Leadership and Practice Program

For currently enrolled MPH student with MCH-related public health experience and a professional degree, the Advanced Leadership and Practice Program may be available. Enrolled student may apply to this track. Acceptance into the Advanced Leadership and Practice Program requires one of the following: (1) a bachelor's level health professions degree with at least 2 years of MCH-related experience, (2) other bachelor's level degree with more extensive MCH or public health experience, (3) a graduate level professional degree and MCH-related public health experience. Further, the student’s application to change tracks will require appropriate documentation of a background and experience in public health practice or academic public health. Final decision on acceptance into the Advanced Leadership and Practice Program is based on the student’s experience and academic background.

Curriculum for the Advanced Leadership and Practice Program (11 months/3 semesters): Students must complete a minimum of 43 semester credit hours: 19 as the MPH core curriculum (including the Integrative Experience), 15 as the Department's core curriculum, 3 as MCH 690 Advanced Leadership and Practice in MCH, 3 as electives, 3 as a field placement.  Students who choose the IHGS emphasis are required to complete a minimum of 52 semester credit hours.

MCH 690 Advanced Leadership and Practice in MCH emphasizes the enhancement of skills needed for the integration and application of public health and maternal and child health knowledge and skills in health and human services settings.  The overall program, and the Advanced Leadership and Practice in MCH course in particular, is designed specifically for students who wish to continue professional careers, but would like to expand their community leadership roles. The three focus areas for the Advanced Leadership and Practice Program are: (1) MCH epidemiology and analytical skills, (2) MCH program administration, policy and advocacy, and (3) MCH International Health and Global Studies.
