DIVERSITY PROMOTION PANEL

The Diversity Promotion Panel (DPP) has two goals:

(1) To help, by its very existence, to convey to current and prospective students, fellows, and faculty that we value diversity and are earnest in our desire to create an environment in which a diversity of individuals can be happy and productive.

(2)Provide advice regarding recruitment and retention of such a diversity of individuals and on creating an environment in which this diversity of individuals can work happily and productively. This is a standing panel that has been jointly created and sponsored by the Section on Statistical Genetics, the overall Department of Biostatistics, and the Clinical Nutrition Research Unit at UAB.

Each member of the DPP is an established successful individual working as a scientist, engineer, or academic. Drs. Ann Loraine and Laura Kelly Vaughan chair the panel. Collectively, this DPP has representation from both genders, people descended from African, Asian, European, Hispanic, and Native American populations, and people with diverse sexual orientations.
