After receiving an undergraduate and graduate degree from the University of Chicago, Dr. Gentleman received a Ph.D. in Statistics from the University of Waterloo in 1973. Following 14 years of teaching in the Department of Statistics at the University of Waterloo, she spent 9 years as a Senior Research Statistician at Statistics Canada, the Canadian Federal Government’s official source for social and economic statistics. In 1991, Dr. Gentleman accepted the role of Chief, Health Status & Vital Statistics Section and then, in 1997, Assistant Director, Analytic Methods with the Ottawa-based agency. She is currently the Director, Division of Health Interview Statistics, and National Center for Health Statistics in the Washington, D.C. area, which is part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
