Kyoungmi received her MS degree in Mathematics from University of Kentucky, Lexington, Kentucky in 1999. She earned her Ph. D degree in Statistics at University of Kentucky in 2003. Her Ph.D, under the supervision of Dr. Mai Zhou, addressed the thesis topic “Envelope empirical likelihood ratio method when additional information is known”. She worked as a teaching assistant/lecturer for three years and as a research assistant supporting epidemiological research at the UK Cancer Program. She was involved in practical research on community-based programs promoting healthy lifestyle practices and to prevent the onset or spread of cancer.

She joined the Section on Statistical Genetics of Department of Biostatistics at University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2003. She is presently learning to develop and evaluate novel statistical genetic methods. She focuses on the measurement quality assessment of microarrays and Bayesian Epistatic analysis of multiple quantitative trait loci (QTL) in gene mapping for Complex traits. Her long term goal is to contribute her statistical and mathematical components to statistical models of physical phenomena.
