I received my undergraduate degree in Biology at Texas A&M University and my PhD in Anthropology from the University of New Mexico. My dissertation research involved the use of genetic admixture to examine social, phenotypic, and obesity-related characteristics of Hispanics and Native Americans in New Mexico.
I joined the Section on Statistical Genetics in January of 2009. I will be working with Drs. David Allison and Jose Fernandez on the genetics of obesity and cardiovascular disease, specifically using genetic admixture to examine health disparities, as well as developing methods to use genomic-scale data to examine signals of evolutionary change.
