In 2005 I joined the MRC Social, Genetic and Developmental Psychiatry centre at the Institute of Psychiatry, Kings College London to undertake their 3 + 1 (PhD + MSc) interdisciplinary programme, funded by the Medical Research Council (MRC). This program gives training in the areas of statistical genetics, molecular genetics and developmental psychiatry and as part of the course I was awarded an MSc with Merit in 2006. During this time I have successfully demonstrated both quantitative genetic analyses, with several peer reviewed articles in this area, and molecular genetic skills, having conducted genotyping on a large, general population sample. While at the centre I have made a substantial teaching contribution, supervising students with their statistical analysis, which has culminated with a position as the co-scientific director of the twin model fitting stream of the international annual summer school. In July 2009 My PhD thesis brought together all the areas covered as part of the 4 year course, using structural equation modelling on different forms of ADHD-behaviour ratings to generate phenotypes for future molecular genetic analysis and reveal the genetic and environmental interplay underlying the population variance in ADD symptomatology
