Stanislav Zakharkin received his M.S. Degree in Cytology and Genetics from the Novosibirsk State University in 1993. He studied molecular genetics of Drosophila melanogaster in Molecular Cytogenetics Laboratory of the Institute of Cytology and Genetics. From 1995 to 1997, he worked as a Research Associate in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and later joined the graduate program in the same Department. His PhD research in the laboratory of Dr. Helen Benes dealt with regulation of female-specific expression of mosquito hexamerins (storage proteins). Stanislav Zakharkin joined the Section on Statistical Genetics of the Department of Biostatistics and works primarily on the analysis of DNA microarrays.
