Interview Strategies: Putting your best foot forward

Overview:
Regardless of your level of self-confidence or degree of technical knowledge, interviewing for private industry or academic jobs can be very intimidating – it's even harder for those who are shy or introverted. This session will help you learn how to mentally prepare to present yourself, and will offer specific strategies for writing cover letters, answering difficult interview questions, and evaluating job opportunities to choose the best match for you.

All Students & Fellows in UAB's Clinical Nutrition Research Center & Section on Statistical Genetics.

• Cover letters for posted openings
• "Cold" cover letters - when you're interested in the organization but know of an opening
• Answering predictable questions
• Answering "curve ball" questions that you couldn't anticipate
• Preparing a winning content presentation
• Asking appropriate questions
• Evaluating opportunities

Distinguished Speakers:

Anita Neuer, MA, LPC is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) providing corporate consultation services as well as personal therapy and coaching through her private practice on Southside, and through her partnership in WorkLife Consulting & Counseling, P.C.., a firm specializing in the delivery of teambuilding, leadership development, and employee retention services for organizations. Anita is a skilled career consultant and former Executive Recruiter. She has a long history of training and leadership experiences, and is a Past-President of Network Birmingham, the AL Association for Psychological Type and the Alabama Mental Health Counselor Association among others. She is a member of the Birmingham Chapter of the American Society for Training and Development and the Birmingham Society for Human Resources Management. Anita is a Supervising Counselor in Alabama, a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor, and a Certified MBTI Practitioner.
