Elected 2013 Chair of the Board of Scientific Affairs and American Psychological Association

Jalie A. Tucker, Ph.D., M.P.H., Professor and Chair, Department of Health Behavior, UAB School of Public Health, has been elected the 2013 Chair of the Board of Scientific Affairs (BSA) of the American Psychological Association (APA). BSA is concerned with all aspects of psychology as a science. Along with its committees and affiliated groups, BSA is responsible for encouraging, developing, and promoting psychology as a science.

Kohler confers/receives awards at annual APHA meeting

Connie Kohler, Professor of Health Behavior in the UAB School of Public Health is being presented with the Mayhew Derryberry Award at the American Public Health Association Meeting in San Francisco on October 30, 2012. The award is given by the Public Health Education and Health Promotion section of the APHA to recognize an outstanding contribution to the profession.

BAO Awareness

As part of his summer internship with the Birmingham AIDS Outreach (BAO), SOPH Health Behavior student, Orrin Ware created a public service announcement to spread awareness of HIV testing and treatment availabilities. Orrin carefully selected his HIV/AIDS oriented internship as a result of his personal experience; born and raised in Washington, D.C., he has witnessed the effects this epidemic can have on communities, families, and friends. He recently discovered that one of his childhood friends is HIV positive.
