Sam Brown Bridge Builder Award Nomination Instructions

The Sam Brown Bridge Builder Award is awarded given annually to a faculty or staff member who embodies the vision, character, and bridge-building talents vital to the future of UAB. Nominees should have demonstrated a deep and abiding commitment to facilitating collaboration and partnership across campus in ways that enhance the research and/or teaching activities of the University

An open nomination process will be announced annually in April by the Sam Brown Bridge Builders (SB3) Committee.The primary nominator should submit a letter describing the nominee’s sustained unselfish leadership in fostering the growth and/or development of interdisciplinary collaboration between two or more schools in ways that embodies the vision, character, and bridge-building talents vital to the future of UAB. The letter should describe the impact of the efforts on specific programs or collaborations.   Two or more letters supporting the nomination and emphasizing the nominee’s contributions are required. At least one of those letters must come from outside the nominee’s primary school of appointment.

The Sam Brown Bridge Builder nomination form and additional information is available here. Nomination packets will be due at Friday, May 31, 2013.

The SB3 Committee will evaluate the nominations to make its annual selection to be announced on June. An award ceremony is planned for July to honor the recipient. The recipient will receive a cash award plus a commemorative plaque. In addition the recipient will receive and retain for one year the ‘bridge award’ with his or her name added on an annual plaque.

The SB3 Committee shall consist of the following individuals who, upon retirement from the Committee or departure from Birmingham, shall be replaced by an individual unanimously agreed upon by the remaining members. The previous three (3) year’s recipients will also serve on the Committee.
