Dr. Janet M. Bronstein (M.A., Ph.D., University of Kentucky, B.A., Brandeis University) is Professor in the Department of Health Care Organization and Policy and Senior Scholar, Lister Hill Center for Health Policy. She holds secondary appointments in the Department of Sociology and the Department of Political Science at UAB. Her doctorate is in Applied Medical Anthropology. She has been on the faculty of UAB since 1988 and teaches a course in Social and Ethical Issues in Public Health. Dr. Bronstein's research interests focus primarily on health care services for the low income population and the operation of safety net health care systems. She is the evaluator for demonstration programs within the Medicaid agencies of Alabama and Arkansas related to improved access to family planning services and to maternity services for high risk pregnant women. She has also conducted research on Medicaid and S-CHIP programs, physician Medicaid participation and quality of care issues.
