The Billy R. Cox Endowed Scholarship

The Billy R. Cox Endowed Scholarship

Billy Cox grew up in Bessemer, Alabama. He was vice-president of his high school senior class and went on to earn a business degree. He contracted AIDS in the early 1990's. In 1994, during the final six months of his life, he candidly shared his story in a series of articles that appeared in The Birmingham News.

Please join friends and admirers who have established the Billy R. Cox Endowed Scholarship to aid in the support of public health students who demonstrate an interest in public health issues for the gay, lesbian, bi and trans-gender populations. An endowed scholarship is permanent; your gift will provide a legacy to grateful students for generations to come. Be assured that all of your gift will go to the fund and is completely tax deductible.

Billy R. Cox Endowed Award in Public Health:

Shaquita Borden-
“Whether people realize it or not, every experience from work to social interactions to the environment in which they live has some
effect on overall health. Public health gives us the tools to explore how these factors work together and how to change them for the better.”
