Paul Muntner, PhD, Associate Dean for Research

Dr. Muntner received his PhD in Epidemiology from Johns Hopkins University in 2001 and held faculty positions at Tulane University and Mount Sinai before joining UAB’s Department of Epidemiology in 2009 as Professor. In 2018, he was named the Associate Dean for Research for the School of Public Health. Dr. Muntner has authored more than 450 manuscripts in the areas of hypertension, lipids, cardiovascular disease and pharmacoepidemiology. He mentors doctoral students, post-docs, and junior faculty and received both the UAB Graduate School Dean’s Award for Mentoring and President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2015.



Paula Garman, MPA, Pre- and Post-award Management

Ms. Garman received her BS and MPA from UAB. She has been with UAB for 22 years in the School of Public Health. Her background is in financial management, grants and contracts administration, departmental operations, and human resources. She joined the Office of Research in October 2018.



Madeline Gibson, MPH, Research Development

Ms. Gibson received her MPH in Epidemiology from the University of Texas Health Science Center in 2014.  She started at UAB as a research coordinator for the Office of Energetics and Nutrition Obesity Research Center. She later managed the Center for Clinical and Translational Science’s pilot program and oversaw several proof-of-concept projects. She joined the Office of Research in April 2019.
