Dominick Lemas: Biochemist and Ph.D Candidate
Dominick Lemas is a native of Alaska and completed a BS in biology at the University of Vermont (UVM). From 2003-2006, Dominick worked under Dr. Jim Vigoreaux in the UVM Biology Department on Drosophila research which aimed to characterize phosphorylation patterns in myosin binding proteins. Currently, Dominick is a Ph.D. candidate in the Biochemistry Department at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) and works in the Center for Alaska Native Health Research (CANHR) as a graduate research assistant. His doctoral research interests have focused on genetic and dietary factors that influence obesity and fasting lipid profiles in Yup’ik Eskimos. Currently, Dominick is a visiting scholar at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) where he is training under the supervision of Dr. Hemant Tiwari in statistical genetics and writing his dissertation.
